| This was the response received from the Office of the State Auditor Good morning and thank you for contacting the Office of the State Auditor (OSA) with your concerns regarding continued errors in the 2025 property tax bills issued by Valencia County. We understand the seriousness of this matter and the frustration these repeated errors have caused taxpayers. OSA is aware that Valencia County has acknowledged responsibility for an initial mill rate calculation error, as well as additional errors in revised tax bills linked to a reported software issue. The recurrence of these problems highlights Valencia County’s continuing need to address both the immediate causes and the underlying weaknesses in processes and internal controls. The Office of the State Auditor is closely monitoring the County’s efforts to correct the errors and identify the root causes of its property tax billing failures. OSA will continue evaluating whether Valencia County is taking appropriate and transparent steps to strengthen internal controls, improve oversight, and implement safeguards to prevent future errors. Residents with questions about their property tax bills or who wish to dispute their assessments should contact the Valencia County Treasurer’s Office and follow the formal property tax appeal process. The County has posted public notices and contact information on its website: Valencia County, NM | Official Website. We appreciate residents raising these concerns and remain committed to promoting transparency, accountability, and sound financial practices in government. |
