The Democratic Party of Valencia County invites community members to our next General Meeting on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at the Belen Public Library.
We are honored to welcome Adrien Lawyer (he/him/his), Director of Education and Co-Founder of the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico, for a presentation about transgender and nonbinary individuals and the issues they are currently facing.
Adrien co-founded TGRCNM in 2008 with Zane Stephens to serve as a clearinghouse for direct services, education, and advocacy for New Mexico’s transgender community. Since then, he has provided Transgender Cultural Fluency training in thousands of settings, including schools, law enforcement and public safety departments, correctional institutions, healthcare and social service facilities, government agencies, businesses, foundations, and nonprofit organizations.
Adrien has also led successful advocacy efforts supporting transgender-inclusive student policies, gender-neutral restrooms, inclusion within social service facilities, statewide bullying prevention, and changes to the process for updating gender markers on birth certificates. Nationally, he presents and consults on issues affecting transgender communities and shares TGRCNM’s work as a successful model for local service provision.
During the meeting, attendees will also learn about the upcoming Rainbow Walk, hosted by Megan Malcolm-Morgan, taking place on Saturday, June 27, at 3:00 p.m. on Becker Avenue. The walk will provide an opportunity for members of the community to come together in support of LGBTQ+ residents, equality, safety, and belonging in Valencia County.
DPVC will also host a supply and fundraising drive for the Transgender Resource Center of New Mexico. Donations will help TGRCNM continue providing vital services, education, advocacy, and support throughout the state. Those who are unable to attend may learn more or make a financial contribution at tgrcnm.org/donate.
We hope you will join us for an informative and meaningful afternoon centered on education, understanding, and solidarity.
