At a time when cruelty is being normalized, division is being rewarded, and chaos is being deliberately stirred from the highest levels of power, DPVC Secretary Ashley Lewin chose to answer with something bold, visible, and unapologetic: LOVE.

Created from rocks and painted a vivid purple, the massive word stretches across a field large enough to be seen from the sky. It is not quiet. It is not subtle. It is a statement. In a political moment shaped by anger, fearmongering, and attacks on the most vulnerable, this artwork stands as an act of protest and a refusal to surrender to hate.

What makes this piece so powerful is not only its scale, but its message. Ashley did not respond to ugliness with silence. She responded by making love impossible to miss. Visible from planes overhead, this work declares that even as the current administration and its allies traffic in chaos and division, there are still people here choosing compassion, courage, decency, and humanity.

This is what resistance can look like. Not passive. Not timid. But rooted in values strong enough to withstand the noise. This piece reminds us that love is not weakness. Love is not retreat. In times like these, love is defiance. Love is conviction. Love is the refusal to let hate have the final word.

From the ground, it is art. From the sky, it is a protest. And from the heart of our community, it is a call to stand together and keep choosing something better. Thank you so much, Ashley, for your commitment to our values and your work to spread them far and wide.
