Wednesday, January 7th, an American citizen was killed by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This killing is part of a broader pattern of unchecked violence, impunity, and abuse carried out by federal immigration enforcement agencies against members of our communities.
A broad coalition of groups across the country is calling for a coordinated Ice Out For Good Weekend of Action. Here in Valencia County, we will be gathering on Saturday, January 10th between 9:00 AM and 10:00 AM at Main Street Memorial Park in Los Lunas.
Our objective is to let our friends, neighbors, and family — and all of our elected officials — see that they are not alone in finding our current national disregard of laws and rights to be outrageous and unacceptable. Our scheduling will allow attendees enough time to join a larger protest event in Albuquerque later in the morning.
A core principle behind all ICE Out For Good events is a commitment to nonviolent action and no civil disobedience. We expect all participants to seek to de-escalate any potential confrontation with those who disagree with our values, and to act lawfully at these events. Weapons of any kind, including those legally permitted, should not be brought to events. All events should be held in public spaces or on public property.
Please join your fellow Indivisibles and patriots in making our voices heard and our message unmistakeable. Silence is no longer an option. We shall — and we must — stand up for decency and democracy in Valencia County… and in the United States of America.
