Because people showed up, spoke out, and refused to let this property tax crisis be brushed aside, the Valencia County Commission has now called a special meeting this Monday to direct staff to move forward with an independent audit of what happened.
This is what community organizing looks like.
When we stand together, tell the truth, and demand accountability, we make change happen — and this moment proves it.
But our work isn’t done yet.
An audit is only as strong as the independence behind it. We need to ensure that this review is conducted by the Office of the State Auditor, not by a private firm with existing ties to the county. Our residents deserve a process that is fair, thorough, and completely transparent — one that restores trust rather than raises new questions.
Here’s how you can help:
🔹 Attend the special meeting on Monday
🔹 Contact your county commissioners and urge them to ensure the audit is conducted by the State Auditor’s Office
🔹 Continue speaking up — your voice is what moved this forward in the first place
We pushed for accountability, and the commission is responding. Now let’s make sure the next step is done right.
I personally want to thank each of you that took the time to share the information with folks, to contact the Commissioners, and attended the meeting. Special thanks to Valencia County Indivisible for their partnership on this critical issue.
