We have received some concerns from voters regarding the conduct of the election in Valencia County. One concern is that two separate voters, who had signed up for lifetime mail-in ballots, did not receive them. The second concern is that when going to vote, an elderly Democrat who has voted in every election was no longer registered, and they attempted to turn her away. Thankfully, an advocate was available to ensure that she was able to vote.
To combat these issues, we must be aware of them. Having advocates present at polling locations will help ensure that everyone can exercise their right to vote. That’s where poll watchers and poll challengers come in. Click here to read information about Poll Watchers and Challengers on the NM SOS website.
Appointment by County Chair
To work as a volunteer poll watcher or poll challenger, you have to be appointed by the County Chair of your political party, and they will advise the County Clerk’s office of such. In Valencia County, that is Summer Ludwig, chair@valenciademocrats.org.
Please email Summer with the following information: Name, Contact Number, Email, and Address where you are registered to vote, and whether you’d like to be a Poll Watcher or Challenger. You will then be contacted to schedule your shift(s).
Training for Poll Watchers and Challengers
Training is required by NM statute for all poll watchers and challengers. This training registration can be completed online here: Set Up New User.
There is also one more in-person training on Thursday, October 30th, 2025, at pm at the office of the Valencia County Clerk.
