In May, 2025, Niagara applied to the NM Office of the State Engineer (the OSE) for a water-rights transfer, so they can pump 500 acre-feet/year (that’s 163 million gallons per year) from the Rio Grande Basin aquifer, using Village of Los Lunas wells. Now: The members of Valencia Water Watchers are now preparing a formal, legal protest of Niagara’s request for a water-rights transfer. We invite you to join the VWW organization so together we can protest Niagara’s application to take 500 acre-feet/year from the Rio Grande Basin. Join us, please! We have put together a simple form that you can fill out to become a member of VWW and join our formal protest. NOTE: There is no cost to be a member of VWW. The names of members will not be included in the VWW protest letter. (VWW members’ names will be on a membership list provided during the OSE hearing process, but that will not happen for a long time.)
